Next up to help you decide who to watch at this year’s Shuffle is music photographer and founder of Spilt Milk Mag, Courtney Brock.
As a freelance photographer Courtney’s credits include being the official photographer for Dot To Dot and Underground festivals, and contributor to Punktastic, and has seen her photograph bands like Circa Waves, You Me At Six and 2 Door Cinema Club (www.courtneybrockphotography.com), so she knows a lot about upcoming bands, evidenced in her also founding the monthly Alternative Music Zine, Spilt Milk Mag (www.spiltmilkmag.com)
Courtney’s Five To Watch are, in no particular order…
Thursday – The Castle – 22:15
Misfires are definitely indie rock front-runners in the Swindon scene right now. They’ve been rapidly releasing tune after tune and are gigging relentlessly on their climb to the top – with tracks that are high-energy and gigs that follow suit, they are certainly ones to watch on this line up!
Thursday – The Castle – 20:45
GETRZ are still fairly young in terms of how long they’ve been together, but they’ve hit the ground running with release of their debut single ‘What He Said’, which has gained a rapid online audience! Their sound blends influence from indie rock as well as grime, giving them a gritty ‘Rat Boy’ edge that’s pretty fresh!
Friday – The Victoria – 22:45
Diagonal People are a band that I have yet to catch live, making them a sure fire MUST for the shuffle this year. It would be a huge task to even try to ‘pigeon-hole’ their sound, which is what I think makes them so exciting. Plus ‘Let Me Be’ was a massive tune that got me hooked and intrigued by these guys in the first place!
Thursday – The Castle – 21:30
I’ve caught these guys live before, supporting Misfires at the Vic – it’s got to be said – they’re good! Their quintessential indie rock sound is really quite infectious and wins over a crowd with ease! It’s safe to say I’m excited to catch these guys again!!
Friday – The Victoria – 19:15
The Sulks (who were known as Street Spirit very briefly) are making waves right now with the very recent release of their debut single ‘Told Ya’, which has gone down an absolute treat online! It’s given us a glimpse of what’s to come from these lads and has certainly grabbed my attention! They’ve got a tonne of gigs lined up and I can’t wait to catch these guys at the shuffle!
